I'm now no longer taking any daily prescription medication for POTS! 🎉
Zofran 8mg - as needed for nausea (typically only when traveling). Besides when traveling, ginger chews work well for me.
Propranolol ER 60mg - 1 daily - I took this every day from June 2021 until I started to wean myself off of it in November 2023. This slow-release capsule worked better for me than taking 20mg 3x a day like I was before, but after seeing so much progress with the Medical Medium protocols, I wanted to see how I would do without it and fully stopped taking beta blockers in January 2024.
Atomoxetine 18mg - 1 daily - This is a low-dose, non-stimulant ADHD medication. While I don't have ADHD, I was told that this could possibly help my head/sinus pressure, brain fog and fatigue, so I gave it a try and IT WORKED! Within a week I started feeling more like my old-self again. The debilitating brain fog and sinus pressure I was suffering from daily were nearly gone. The medication worked great for about four months until I started experiencing vertigo. I had a gut feeling that it could be the medicine, so I stopped cold turkey and it went away. I was really disappointed because I honestly felt so relieved to have finally found a medication that helped some of my symptoms so much. Still, I would say that it's worth asking your doctor about because it really was promising there for a while!
Midodrine - This was prescribed about 6 months into my diagnosis. Honestly, I feel like it made my symptoms either worse or the same depending on the day. Also, the head tingling side-effect is true, and very annoying!
Propranolol 10mg - I was originally prescribed this by doctors at Mayo upon diagnosis. I was taking this 3x a day, but once I saw my local POTS doctor, Dr. Mobarek, he doubled the dosage to 20mg 3x a day, and later put me on the larger 60mg slow-release capsule noted above. I definitely had less tachycardia and shortness of breath throughout the day heart rate-wise once switching to the slow-release capsule.
Since July 2022, I've also incorporated the Medical Medium's supplement protocol for Autoimmune Disorders. Here is a PDF file that talks about it in more detail. Buying all of these at once can get pricey, so in terms of priority, my favorites are the Spirulina and Barley Grass Juice Powders because I use them in my smoothies daily. There are many days when I forget to take the other supplements and I still continue to see great progress.
